To ensure a proper brew, make sure not to use too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamp the grounds before brewing as this can lead to inadequate pressure. The amount of espresso extracted will depend on the grind size and amount used. Adjusting these factors may require reprogramming.
